A local wonder
These caves are a small unique natural wonder in Provence. In the middle of the village of Thouzon, the caves are not to be missed. If you are heading to the charming village of L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue they are only 7 Km away. Worthy of a visit while you are in the area.

History of the Caves
Discovered in 1902 during the exploitation of a quarry. The Thouzon caves are a fairy show of the work of an underground river. The entrance, at the foot of the Thouzon hill, will bring you in the first of the 2 rooms that form these 230 meters long caves.

A 45 minutes guided walk, in the fossilised bed of the ancient river that creates this beauty, is available. Offering you the opportunity to admire many small wonders of 60 million years of crystallisation.
Macaroni Madness
Thousands of very fine fibular hollow stalactites called “macaroni” hang from the roof. They can be up to two metres long and less than three millimetres thick, decorating the caves like needles. Flint stones apparent in large numbers, a beautiful limestone pearl, and unique in France, a baby bat fossil that was trapped in the limestone during the collapse of part of the vault.

But wait until you arrive into the second room … Completely pitch black you will discover its beauty like the first explorers did. A torch light will slowly reveal pieces of its treasures until suddenly the room is fully illuminated to reveal the entirety of its magnificence.
